Crochet Stitch How-To: The Moss Stitch

The crochet Moss Stitch is a beautiful stitch pattern which creates a fabric made of strong columns of stitches. There are so many projects that would benefit from the moss stitch, as it’s easy to work and creates a fairly dense fabric that would be perfect for some lightweight home goods. Consider using cotton yarn in pale colors to fully show off the beautiful texture created by the moss stitch.

Notes:

  • While working the moss stitch, it’s a good idea to regularly check your stitch count at the end of each row.

Pattern:

Cast on any multiple of 2 sts

Row 1: Skip first ch, sl st in next ch, *1hdc in next ch, sl st in next ch; rep from * to end, turn.

Row 2: Ch1, *sl st in next hdc, 1hdc in next sl st; rep from * to end, working last sl st in tch, turn.

Rep Row 2 to form pattern.
