Hey all! It’s been a while, and I’m so happy to be back with a brand new crochet pattern: the Oasis Mug Rugs! This is the perfect pattern for summer–pair it with your morning coffee on the deck or with a refreshing after-work cocktail.
I’ve had a backlog of patterns I’ve been working on the last couple months. A lot of these were put on hold while I was working on the site rebrand (which I thought would go much smoother, let me tell you). But now we’re back! We’ve got book reviews! We’ve got our offering of free crochet patterns! And now we’ve got these mug rugs, perfect to pair with a summer cocktail in your own personal oasis.
The pattern for the Oasis Mug Rugs is available for free below. You can also visit our Etsy shop to purchase a downloadable pdf version of the pattern for a small fee that will help us keep this blog up and running.

Oasis Mug Rugs
These mug rugs are super quick + easy to make. A set of four can be completed in about 2-3 hours, and will use less than half a skein in each color of Lion Brand’s 24/7 Cotton yarn (if that’s what you opt to use). For this reason, the Oasis Mug Rugs make a great stash-busting pattern!
For these mug rugs, I used Lion Brand’s 24/7 Cotton yarn. If you’ve never used this yarn before, I highly recommend it. The yarn is 100% mercerized cotton, and it’s so tough and durable. Lion Brand also offers it in a huge array of gorgeous colors, so be sure to take a look if you want to try some other color combos for your mug rugs!
- tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)
4″ square = 25 sts and 19.5 rows
4″ x 7.5″ (including fringe)
- For the color striping, I opted to simply carry the yarn up the sides rather than snip at the end of each 2nd row of color.
Ch 28 in Color A
R1: 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch1, skip 1ch, 1sc in next ch; rep from * to end of row, turn.
R2: Ch1, skip first sc, *1sc in ch-1 sp, ch1, skip 1sc; rep from * to end of row, 1sc in ch-1, turn.
R3: Rep Row 2.
R4: In Color B, rep Row 2.
Simply repeat Row 2 to complete the mug rug. The color striping is as follows:
Rows 1-3 in Color A
Rows 4-5 in Color B
Rows 6-7 in Color A
Rows 8-9 in Color B
Rows 10-11 in Color A
Rows 12-13 in Color B
Rows 14-15 in Color A
Rows 16-17 in Color B
Rows 18-20 in Color A
To make the fringe, simply cut 2 pieces of yarn in Colors A + B measuring ~4″ each. Along the shorter ends of the mug rugs, loop the 2 yarns through with a crochet hook. Repeat this up and down each of the shorter ends, being sure to use a length of both colors to create a visually interesting 2-tone fringe.
You may choose to weave in the ends. However, if you (like me!) hate this part, you can also simply work these ends into the fringe.
Once all the fringe is attached, trim to ensure the ends are even.
